Magic Cave is an important room for the XP routing at the start of the 100% All Keys, 1CC speedrun where players attempt to get a 50 PBag drop from killing the last Lowder in the room, which would leave you with 86xp.

Notes
Let SC stand for small count, BC for big count, CXP for current XP and L for levels

Bridge section
After doing the healer glitch and arriving at king's tomb nothing has been killed so it holds SC = 0, BC = 0, CXP = 0, L:1-1-1
Kill the red daira on the first bridge and skip taking life 2 and magic 2 and now it holds SC = 0, BC = 1, CXP = 100, L:1-1-1
On the second bridge jump over the two moblins and the lowder so it still holds SC = 0, BC = 1, CXP = 100, L:1-1-1

Octorok cave
Since not having obtained the candle, it is dark in this cave but there are four octoroks in this cave. Kill the first octerock with a low beam and a falling stab. Jump over the second octorok. Kill the third and forth octorok by shooting a beam at them and kill them with a reverse stab. Now it holds SC = 3, BC = 1, CXP = 130, L:1-1-1

Hammer cave
Kill the red daira and take attack 2. Kill the second acheman and before going to the next screen it holds SC = 4, BC = 2, CXP = 40, L:2-1-1

Shoot the third megmat with a beam and kill it by a backward beam. Kill the orange daira and skip taking life 2 and magic 2. Before going down the elevator it holds SC = 5, BC = 3, CXP = 115, L:2-1-1

Kill the red daira and before going to the next screen it holds SC = 5, BC = 4, CXP = 215, L:2-1-1

Kill the myu on the center platform and this enemy will be a drop, it is required to be a 50 pbag to get the correct levels, so under the assumption the drop is a 50 pbag it now holds SC = 0, BC = 4, CXP = 265, L:2-1-1

In the final screen there is one orange daira first and a red daira after. The red daira will be a drop and it is required to be a 200 pbag to obtain the the correct levels. Kill the orange and red daria and it holds SC = 0, BC = 0, CXP = 15, L:3-1-1

The compensation
After doing an Up A after obtaining the hammer and having the the levels 3-1-1 the orange daira in medicine cave must be killed to get life 2 because the supposed levels after getting the hammer is 3-1-2, but the effect will be the same in the end after getting life 2 from the orange daira in medicine cave.

Downsides and upsides
The big downside to this alternative XP route is that it require both a 50 pbag drop and a 200 pbag drop so the the probability for this XP route to working is (1/2)*(1/8) = 1/16 (6.25%) compare to the original XP route where the chance is 1/2 (50%) for it to work instead. The big upside is that a red daira with a myu close is skipped which is both much safer and save a few seconds.

Video Example
Hippie Alternate Route Video

Walk Diagram
Walk Description
* 0 - When walking from either the bridge or the grave 1-up, the goal is to take an encounter on this tile. Exit the encounter to the left with no delay. Make your way towards 1.
* a - This is a rarely used backup tile for 0 in case it’s easier to take the encounter on this tile. Exit the encounter to the left with no delay. Make your way towards 1.
* 1 - This is the Cats Tile, another backup for if you can’t get the encounter at either 0 or a. If you did get the encounter at 0 or a, ignore this and continue following the path to 2. If you did not get one of the earlier encounters, step off the path either above or below to trigger an enemy spawn and take the encounter on this tile. Exit the encounter to the left with no delay. Follow the path to 2.
* 2 - This is the last tile that you are on the path for. Walk onto the grass to the left to the 🡑 tile where both the step and timed encounter spawns should trigger.
* 🡑 - Walk one tile up and then to the left to avoid the spawned enemies. Make your way into the swamp either directly below 3 or one tile to the right of that and then walk through the swamp up to 3.
* 3 - This is where the next spawns will trigger. Break the boulder quickly and walk up into the cave, you should make it in before taking an encounter.
* Note: this is one of the most consistent overworld walks in the game. With just a little practice it should become consistent.
* Common ways for this walk to fail
** Fairy spawns
** Late up input at 🡑
** Long delay at the boulder break
** Missed or incorrect d-pad inputs

Eco Key Introduction
Here is the room in Palace 5 where Eco Key is performed.

In casual gameplay, the intended method to get through this room is to cast Fairy spell, go up the column past the key, exit the screen to the right, then circle back and pick up the key. The Jump spell is not sufficient by itself to reach the ledge.

The Eco Key trick is the method of using the Jump spell to perform a max height jump, and then use the Skull Bubble to damage boost onto the ledge. This saves time by avoiding having to exit the screen and backtrack.

This time save by successfully executing Eco Key is approximately 13 seconds.

Eco Key Setup
The Eco Key trick is fairly precise but there is a several pixel tolerance, and it can be executed consistently.

# Upon entering the room, cast Jump. Avoid the first Skull Bubble.
# Scroll the screen until the Key, Skull Bubble, and 3 floor bricks on the top of the ledge are visible.
#:
# Stop and wait for the Skull Bubble to bounce off the floor, right side of the screen, and then up toward the ceiling.
#* Crouch stab twice to stop immediately and wait the proper delay. The two stabs should be slightly slower than max speed.
#* Turn backward and stop. Wait until the bubble starts traveling up to the ceiling.
#:
# Walk to the right. When Link reaches one floor brick away from the corner, press and hold A to execute a maximum height jump.
#:
# Just after jumping, press and hold Left to turn backward while jumping.
#:
# Link's forehead will hit the Skull Bubble and get knocked back. If executed properly, Link will rebound up and land on the ledge.
#:
In the spirit of a game jam, we encourage you to think small - build a single palace or make something small around a single concept or even implement some new custom assembly if you want. Don’t try to make a full scale hack in 1 week! Don’t even worry about having your hack be completable - if you change palace 1 it’s okay if that’s all that is accessible.

Submitted Hacks
* Z2 Hackjam by riiyak
* The Eastern Shadow by Max
* Zelda's Alarm Clock by eon
* Z2Good4U by sheepdog
* Benthic King by CF207 and bentglasstube
* Link's Car Keys by Travwhite
* The Harrowing Escapade of Link by link_7777
* Z2GG by gtm
* Return to Death Mountain by megmactv

The entries were submitted as .ips patches (some also included .bps patches) with an accompanying README file to give some background on the hack and what sort of scope to expect.

Speedrun Rules
Timing starts with control in North Palace. Time ends with control loss shortly after killing Dark Link. All bosses must be defeated, and in the following order: Thunderbird, Barba, Gooma, Carrock, Rebonack (Palace 3), Helmethead, Horsehead, Dark Link.

Routes
Current WR Route
Key
*✓ = Go right until the screen scrolls about two tiles. It will then lock as you exit left.
*BIG✓ = in Palace 4 if you don't go far enough right you won't end up in the right place.
*← = Exit room to the left.
*→ = Exit room to the right.
*↓ = Down elevator or drop.
*↑ = Up elevator (only one, en route to Gooma).
*(→ [text]) = Head right upon entering room. Follow instructions in [text].

Get to Hammer Cave
*Execute Healer Glitch in Rauru
*Walk all the way right in glitch town to end up in King's Tomb
*Cross the bridge killing the red daira and jumping over moblins and lowder.
*Octoroks can be killed with low beams/reverse stabs or skipped. A safe method is to jump over all except killing the 3rd with two quick crouch stabs.

Hammer Cave (3-1-2 at hammer)
*The first two rooms of hammer cave are much easier with beams.
*Room 1: Take attack2 if you can or life2 after red daira to preserve beam. Timing is tricky in first room.
*Room 2: Full jump from the lowest step and stab just under the ceiling to stun the first two megmats walk past then jump crouch stab the third. Orange daira takes 6 or 9 hits depending on if you took attack 2. Levels should be 2-1-2
*Room 3: Lure out left red daira with neutral jumps and kill it pinned against wall. Skip magic levels! Head right and kill red daira. Let xp count before loading next screen!
*Hammer room: Kill both dairas. p-bag drop required for attack 3. Up+A at hammer.

Medicine/Magic container
*Medicine cave walk
*Medicine room: jump over dairas. Safe strat, kill one or two red ones.
*Get Medicine. up+A
*Magic container cave. up+A

Alt Glitch
*Execute alt glitch (door, vase lady, door, door, door) and exit left.
*This should stay active for the rest of the run.
*NOT invalidated by up+A at Great/Grand Palace, but IS by game over or any other up+A

Palace 2
*(Optional cave heart)
*Enter Palace 2
*✓ ← ← ←* ← ✓ ← ← ✓
* *jump just as you enter the room to avoid lava

Mido
*← ← (→ fairy), →
*Cast fairy, fill magic, get downstab
*← ✓ to exit at Bagu's house

To Maze Island
*fairy feet bridge to Saria
*Saria ✓ ✓
*Proceed to spectacle rock.
*Each cave is ✓ except the last which is ←
*Hammer spectacle rock from the RIGHT
*get magic and fairy feet. Walk to Palace 4

Boots and Raft (3-2-3 at raft)
*Enter p4 ↓ → ↓ →
*Boots room. With good planning you can kill the blue iron knuckle and cast fairy before taking magic 2 or leave it alive and take a death after getting boots.
*✓ exit! Now you're in Palace 3
*↓ → → → → ✓ → →
*Raft room. Jackhammer through blue iron knuckle (don't have to kill). Get raft. Exit ←

Flute (3-3-3 at flute)
*Get Child and magic from maze island
*1up can be collected now if needed or after T-bird/Barba for some extra insurance on precarious Gooma fight, or en route to Darunia later at dazzle walk
*Enter Palace 5 ↓ → → → (need at least 100xp to take magic 3 level)
*✓ ← ← ✓ ← (→ cast fairy, ↓ elevator)
*→ → → ✓ ← ✓ ←

To GP (4-3-3 at GP)
*Ocean heart exit ←
*re-enter this cave and ✓
*New Kasuto get magic container exit ← ✓
*Cave ← ←
*get forest pbag. Possibly one more forest encounter.
*Shore heart
*Bridge to Kasuto. Jump when just under the cloud (not before)
*Kasuto (→ Thunder). panic stab while moving right. Doorway is in the space before last building.
*fairy feet across bridge.
*walk to New Kasuto cave. Take encounters until attack 4. Enter and ✓
*Enter GP and up+A

GP
*The only thing you need to kill is T-bird. Everything else is just an obstacle, esp. spicy chickens
*✓ ← ✓ → → → ↓ → → ↓ → ↓ ↓ → ↓

Walk Description
* 0 - This is the 1-up encounter tile. When you enter this tile, hold left to collect the doll (the delay from collecting the doll is important, if on FDS or not collecting the doll, do 3 standing stabs before exiting the screen) and then walk off the encounter screen. When back at the overworld, wait for the encounters to spawn and start to move. Walk up and left to make your way to 1 while avoiding the encounters - if there are no fairy spawns this should be easy to do.
* 1 - This is where the second spawn (step counter) will spawn. We want the spawn in the grass so the spawn is further from Link. Walk left to 🡑.
* 🡑 - From this tile, walk up one tile and then turn left to avoid the overworld spawn. Make your way left and up to 2.
* 2 - This is where the next set of spawns happen (both the step counter and the timer spawn). Make your way up and left to 3.
* 3 - You don’t want to go further north than this tile if you can avoid it. From here make your way down and left to 4.
* 4 - This is where the final spawn happens, it should home in on Link. Hesitate to make sure the encounter homes in and then walk left one tile and wait for the spawn to close in.
* 5 - This is the fixed encounter tile, walk up onto this tile as you take an encounter from the spawn at 4.
* × - This is an alternative tile to 2. I recommend not using this tile as it causes the spawns to be one tile further to the left, increasing your chances of taking an encounter along the mountains between 3 and 4.
* Note: The exact path you take for the Dazzle walk is not set in stone, you need to react to the spawns while still making your way to the indicated key tiles.
* Common ways this walk fails fails
** Fairy spawns
** Not hesitating long enough at 0
** Going to × instead of 2 and taking an encounter between 3 and 4
** Missed up input on the d-pad
** Random walk from enemies
** Not waiting long enough for the encounter skip at 5

* 0 - After getting the shield spell, exit Rauru walking left with no hesitation, make your way to 0 where you break the boulder. After breaking the boulder make your way to 1.
* 1 - An overworld spawn will happen here. Hesitate briefly so the spawn commits to walking towards Link. This is a longer hesitation than it initially feels like you need. After the hesitation walk left and down to make your way to 2.
* 2 - You need to take an extra step to cancel the step encounter, if you walk here after 1, you’ll have taken the necessary extra step. From here walk right to 3, breaking the boulder along the way.
* 3 - From here you just need to walk directly south to the King’s Tomb encounter tile (4).
* 4 - You should have gotten a free walk here from 3 if you did everything correct. Hold left to exit King’s Tomb as quickly as possible and make your way south to 5.
